My snakey friend

Yep - living in Australia comes with all of the wonders you often read about. Amazing weather, gorgeous beaches, wonderful multicultural society... and snakes. I stumbled upon one in my backyard on the weekend. I was completing my fatherly duties of mowing the lawn when I spotted what I thought was the back of a large lizard in a soil retaining wall. It wasn't long before I realised it was actually a snake.

Now - what to do next? I had a couple of options, try to determine what type of snake it was and then deal with it if it was venomous or just call in the professionals.

I decided to simply call in the professionals.

Of course, when I finally tracked down the local snake wrangler, the snake had disappeared for the day. his comforting advise was.. "look mate - over here there are heaps of the little buggers... this is just one of many living next you you..."

That gave me the same nervous feeling that i had when I spotted the first one. I followed up the next morning with another peep and there it was again - back in the same spot. by the time I convinced my wife to check it out it had disappeared again...

So - next weekend I am going to get serious and build myself a snake catcher! stay tuned...
